Smart phone, dumb user

Some fourteen years ago when I presented my final year highschool thesis called “The Internet as a cultural phenomenon”, a visiting professor* from the U.S. asked me “You think this is the future? People staring into rectangular boxes?” and I replied “Well, yes”, although I could not have imagined anything like this:

A Taiwanese tourist fell into the icy waters of Port Philip Bay, Melbourne, Australia after walking off a pier while checking her Facebook page on her smartphone.

“Tourist, Rincewind decided, meant ‘idiot’.”
